Disclaimer: This is not a sponsored blog post but an honest review from a lifestyle blogger.
Hey Readers,
In this week’s post, I want to share my review on an app I came across while scrolling on TikTok called Lemon 8, which appeared to be an advert where influencers were promoting the app.
So, if you’re wondering what this new app is about, it is described as a lifestyle app sister app to TikTok, and it has a mixture of Instagram, Pinterest and, of course, TikTok, owned by Byte Dance. I read somewhere that it was inspired by a Chinese app called Xiaohongshu, translated to Little Red Book.
Before 2023, Lemon 8 became popular in other Asian countries like Malaysia.
It started to gain interest in the West recently, and from what I know, it’s gaining popularity.

They have multiple Instagram accounts that cater to different audiences geographically, such as the UK.
It has created a lot of curiosity and discussion from viewers and online articles; however, it has raised some eyebrows and questions about whether it is safe.

In this blog post, I’ll share my honest opinion on this app from someone who consumes a lot of lifestyle content on social media. Also, I will walk you through how I created my account and the themes I decided to pick for my For You Page.
Joining Lemon 8 🍋
It has created a lot of curiosity and discussion from viewers and online articles; however, it has raised some eyebrows and questions about whether it is safe.
I used my Google account to sign in since it was easier and chose at least five topics of interest to appear on my For You Page, which were beauty, fashion, food, travel and fitness.

The app experience
Layout and design
The layout is similar to other visual social media platforms like Pinterest and Instagram. It reminds me of 21 Buttons, if you remember, which was released years ago.
The placement for following, for you page, and search is identical to TikTok.
The design is simplistic and not too overwhelming. The colour scheme seems to have a main colour, which is yellow, signifying the colour of a lemon.
Content
I don’t want to be rude, but there’s nothing ordinary about the content on Lemon 8 since I’ve seen similar content on other social media platforms like Pinterest or Instagram.
The content style is similar and uniform, if that makes sense.

The explore page contains the rising stars on the app; however, they tend to have a small-medium following of around 30 – 1000 followers, which is understandable since the app is recent.

I came across a few contents I enjoyed, especially on the food and fitness page, and since I’m planning on being active again, I believe this app would be helpful in terms of healthy recipe ideas and fitness tips (which I should take as a grain of salt).
Social interaction
I haven’t started engaging with people on the app yet and posting; however, I might post some food and lifestyle content.

Overall experience
The idea of Lemon 8 is great for lifestyle content enthusiasts like me; however, the content and concept aren’t unique like what other social media apps are known for, and since the app is fairly new, I feel like there’s room for improvement in terms of the app itself.
I haven’t explored this app a lot since I’m still new to Lemon 8 and hopefully will try the content creation side of the app to see if I enjoy it.
The question you’ve been waiting for.
Is Lemon 8 legit?
Yes, the app seems legit since I believe it is an opportunity for lifestyle content creators to gain traction and viewers to engage on an app that interests them.
Would I recommend it?
If you’re not a lifestyle enthusiast like myself, I wouldn’t recommend it, but if you are, there’s no harm in joining.
I hope this honest review has helped you to decide to join the rising lifestyle social media platform.
More blog posts will be coming in the future.
